Flight into the Flame



Shall I stand upon the firmament

or aviate the sky

Shall I float the ocean's crested waves

or shall I learn to fly

Do I stroll with earthly balance

Or should I step a lively dance

Shall I walk carefully along the earth

or give my soul its chance?

The fire heats my spirit

But the water sooths my skin

the earth is strong and present

yet the flame still pulls me in

Avoid the flame I'm often warned

choose the water's gentle flows

But I'm not a moth that singes

I'm the air that's part of both

So I choose the water's ease for now

with a discontented sigh

because my soul flame speaks to me

and urges me to fly
